Pond Volume Calculator

How to measure your pond
Measure the water itself, not the liner or the edging stones. Take the depth at a few points and use the average, especially if your pond has planting shelves or a sloping floor. For an irregular pond, split it into rough rectangles and circles, work out each one, and add them together.

Why your pond volume matters
Knowing how many litres your pond holds is the starting point for looking after it properly:

  • Treatments and medications are dosed by pond volume, so an accurate figure avoids under- or over-dosing your fish.
  • Pumps and filters are rated by pond size. Many koi keepers aim to pump the full volume through the filter at least once every two hours.
  • Water buffers are dosed by volume too. Once you have your figure, use our GH and KH Calculator to work out how much buffer your pond needs.
