What Is Nitrite?

Another group of beneficial bacteria (Nitrobacter) then converts nitrite into nitrate, which is much less harmful and can be absorbed by aquatic plants or removed during water changes.

Where Does Nitrite Come From?

Nitrite is produced during the breakdown of organic waste in your pond.

If the water remains clear, congratulations - your pond has zero nitrite, which is exactly where it should be!
